What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a Chinese traditional science of prevention
and treatment of disease by needling method.
Acupuncture is an important component of traditional Chinese
medicine. It dates back as early as the New Stone Age in
China when its ancient inhabitants used bian stone, the
earliest known acupuncture instrument to treat disease.
Later, as technology developed, bone and bamboo were used as
needles. And even-tually, with the introduction of metal
casting, needles fashioned from iron, gold, bronze and other
metals became the standard tool for acupuncture.
Does acupuncture hurt?
No, the special disposable needles are applied onto the
outermost layer of the skin and will not penetrate the
sensitive tissue. During its application, there may be a
slight sensation as the Chi or energy gets stimulated.
Otherwise, the procedure is done in a very relaxing and
calming manner. Oftentimes, patients have a restful nap
during the session and emerge refreshed and relieved from
their symptoms.
Does it have any side-effects?
Since it is a non-invasive procedure, acupuncture does not
have any known side-effects nor will it interfere with any
on-going medication.
